Most companies will NOT reimburse for “wigs”. Medicare will NOT reimburse for “wigs” or “cranial or hair prosthesis” according to the current laws. Amazed (more like blown away) that the insurance companies still see this as a cosmetic luxury rather than a medical need. It seems like insurance companies would rather pay for counseling and medication to help us cope rather than deal with the actual reason for our pain.

We are asking that you sign this petition in hopes that we get enough signatures to persuade ALL insurance companies to understand that a human wig/cranial or hair prosthesis is a medical necessity and should NOT be deemed as cosmetic need for people diagnosed and living with Alopecia, Our condition for most is a permanent condition. Alopecia is a medical condition and insurances should treat it as so!

Please share this to everyone and ask them to sign this petition. Let's see if we together can make a difference!

I HAVE BEEN SPENDING MY ENTIRE WEEK SENDING LETTERS TO HEALTHCARE EXECUTIVES TO DEMAND THEY RECOGNIZE HAIR PROSTHESIS AS A VITAL MEDICAL NECESSITY!! THE STORIES I READ FROM YOU ALL EVERY DAY ARE THE FUEL KEEPING THIS FIGHT ALIVE BECAUSE THIS IS ABSOLUTELY NOT A COSMETIC LUXURY!!

THE MOMENTUM IS ABSOLUTELY EXPLODING RIGHT NOW AND I AM BEYOND EXCITED TO SEE THIS MOVEMENT TAKING OFF!! IT IS FINALLY BECOMING IMPOSSIBLE FOR THESE COMPANIES TO IGNORE THE TRUTH THAT OUR MEDICAL NEEDS ARE NOT COSMETIC LUXURIES!!

I have an amazing niece who has been dealing with this for many years. She has not let it hold her back. She is serving in the Navy. Why should this not be a covered medical expense.

i have blue cross/blue shield, a major insurance company who refused to pay for hair prosthesis, because my hair loss was not due to receiving chemo. They didn't consider Alopecia a medical condition.

Alopecia is medical condition, in my case of having AU, it's a long term hairloss & insurance should be required to help toward wig reimbursements! There should not even be a question about this, it's not cosmetic, it's a medical condition & not everybody is comfortable going out in public bald!!

as a person with AU and a professional job where my hair is a necessity really. I wish it was covered. they do it for cancer. why not for folks who have a long term illness where it won't grow back?

I'm astonished that people getting chemotherapy, who only need a wig temporarily, get wig coverage, but people with alopecia, who may have a lifelong need for wigs, do not.

i have seen where anthem covers breast implants because a woman's mental health is affected by her body image. Please explain why this any different than a woman who is suffering from hair loss and the body image she has from that.
