This an environmental crisis also....why wouldn't the MNR be able to help our trees. I thought that it would be a top priority.
The air feels dead now when in the affected area...it looks like a fire has gone through accept for the underbrush.

We do need our civic leaders to demonstrate greater respect, appreciation for and proactivity towards the protection and enhancement of trees and our urban forest in Quinte West.

Our whole 60 acres of forest has been devastated by the Gypsy Moth Caterpillars. It looks like winter time!

Badly infested on White Oak Court. Trees are all defoliated and the shrubs and gardens heavily consumed by the gypsy moth caterpillars. Please consider spraying and/or lobbying the Province to do so.

Quinte West must act immediately to deal with this infestation. Failure to do so will clearly show that this Mayor and Council does not care about the environment, the health of the residents nor the financial impact of this problem. Failure is how this council will be remembered.

In September 2019 we moved from a Toronto suburb to our dream home in a beautiful white pine and oak forest on Airport Road. The serenity and beauty of the woods in all seasons is breathtaking. That was then - spring 2021 brought forest devastation from the Gypsy moth caterpillars. They have feasted on not only all the pine and oak trees, but also our newly planted Manitoba maples, Japanese lilacs, Katsura, and assorted shrubs - burning bushes, barberries, mugho pines, weigela, peonies and hydrangeas. These caterpillars have even destroyed our lawn - clinging upright on blades of grass. This is just the 2nd year of a 4 year cycle - we need aerial spraying and we need the City of Quinte West to take action even if the Province dosen't

I have zero confidence that the govt will deal with this problem. Let’s hire people to plant trees but not take care the the 19 and counting 35 year old mature spruce trees I will be cutting down this year because of the caterpillars. The govt is a complete disgrace. When you need them they’re not there and when don’t they’re stealing your money. All just biding their time until they can collect their pension. Very sad.

I live on Airport Road. The devastation is unbelievable. What we are afraid of is that this is going to repeat next year and that will be disastrous! We need aerial spraying!!!!

We have planted over a thousand dollars in trees since moving here five years ago. We had beautiful mature red maple, and spruce. It is so sad to see the devastation of our beautiful trees. We sprayed daily, and finally hired a commercial sprayer to come in. The problem is that our neighbours have not sprayed. We need help!

Many of our trees on our 46 acres at 432 Airport Rd have been defoliated.
We hope Quinte West will proceed with a plan to help solve this problem.

My families health & all the Trees & plants survival is being threatened by this pest. I’m sure in the year 2021 there are enough options to help eradicate this invasive species. In the past invasive species get the attention needed, it seems the people who have the authority to tackle this issue are not doing their jobs. Everyone does not deserve this, & it is effecting everything that is summer related. It may as well be winter, it sucks royally & is scary.

You cannot sit outside, our whole family is suffering from a chronic terrible rash that feels as bad as poison oak. You only need to come in contact with the fibres of their silks. The caterpillars fibres in silks are full of Histamine which when come in contact with your skin can trigger severe allergic reaction ...at this rate we will fight this all summer taking extra medication & suffering just from going to your car & taking out garbage!!! This is deplorable!!!!!!
