Allow John H. Guyer Students to exercise first amendment rights in support of reforming gun laws

As parent of Guyer student and taxpayer in Denton ISD for almost 30 years, it is abhorrent that you would punish these kids for exercising their rights. I hope this gets the media attention that it deserves and you are shamed for not being as progressive as Southlake and McKinney schools. DO BETTER GUYER.

Student civic engagement should be encouraged, whether it is at the voting booth or at a peaceful protest. Please do not discourage the students from participating in social activism. Our country would not be what it is today without student involvement in the political process.

Students should not be facing punitive measures for exercising their 1st Amendment rights. They have had to fear on a daily basis because of a run-away 2nd Amendment and they have EARNED the right to come together--especially on a school day--and cry out ENOUGH! And, just for the record, I'm a grandmother who fully supports this stand and is so very proud of these students.

Because the adults don’t & have never had to do active shooter drills while in attending school.

As a former Guyer Parent I'm 100% behind this.

I completely support my son's right to peaceful protest without undue penalty. It's 17 minutes of democracy at work.

This is an extremely important issue for these high school students and the school and school district should support there Civic activism.

You’d seriously be restricting the freedom of these kids by not allowing the peaceful walkout in protest to something that STRICTLY concerns them as students

Freedom of Speech

We protest in order to raise awareness to what guns are doing. We do this for the ones who’s no longer have a voice to speak.

This means more to us than you think and we are prepared to fight to let out voices be heard. This will never happen again. It will be the last one.

Every person has a right to demonstrate peacefully for people/events they believe in. I support students at Guyer who want voice their concerns.

I may be “just a student” but we deserve the right to fight for what we believe in and have our voices be heard.
