In my opinion, it is the powerlines that interfere with the trees...OVERHEAD POWERLINES ARE UNSAFE!!!!

There's No reason they can't just trim the trees instead of cutting them down. Perhaps, it's part of "Agenda 21".. a program designed to take our communities and country down. If interested in getting more informed on the topic check out www.whatisagenda21.net Save the trees~

A majority of the large ash trees that got cut on Portsmouth Ave had crown die back caused by 'ash yellows,' a diagnosis confirmed by NH Department of Agriculture in 2015. http://www.na.fs.fed.us/pubs/howtos/ht_ash/ash_yell.pdf I support the removal of these diseased trees. But the pending removal of the healthy, well manicured oaks and maples on Portsmouth Ave and Newington Road is tragic. These majestic trees and the ancient stonewalls create a sense of place that is at risk of being lost. Hopefully, this education campaign will get our neighbors to change their minds; particularly if they've been strong-armed or misled into the decision. With regard to trees on Town lands, it appears that there is a gap in the protections that our Town ordinances provide. A public hearing should be required for removal of trees (greater than a certain size) on town lands. Prevent this from happening again. Give trees legal protection!

Petitions are great though if you really want to make an impact - call you town council, your local reps. Calls make a difference

The following is taken from Eversource's website: "Eversource is committed to environmental leadership by responsibly conducting business in a manner that protects and enhances the environment and fosters environmental stewardship and sustainable business practices. This approach is in balance with our overall company mission to safely deliver reliable energy and superior customer service." I highly dispute that the way they are currently handling tree maintenance falls into "responsible stewardship". Shame on you Eversource for being greedy/hasty instead of showing respect for our communities that you "serve".

Our trees are not only beautiful but necessary. Don't cut something down that takes decades to get back! Just trim them!

They've butchered Portsmouth Ave & Newington Rd. I'm all for safety but this is taking it to another level.

Let's be reasonable. If you have a cavity in one tooth, the dentist don't extract all 32 teeth, right? Please trim where needed, but don't cut down the trees blindly

My husband met actor Ted Danson today who was visiting the Seacoast. He said, "You live in a beautiful area". He obviously didn't drive down Portsmouth Avenue in Greenland. Any tree removal needing to be done for the purpose of delivering electrical service should be done with trimming and selective removal of trees. I was shocked to see the hack job that has taken place, destroying beautiful, natural landscape. Intervention is necessary here. Because this cutting was authorized by a "higher power", whoever it may be, does not make it right.

Trim the trees only! the total removal leaving the stump looks like devastation! check out Portsmouth Ave by the Smith's fields. There is no more buffer-Strategic limb cutting makes MORE sense- and allows the natural barrier. I am NOT for this.
