Green Bay Rd Widening and Bike Lane Opposition

629 Green Bay Rd The addition of bike lanes to Green Bay Rd is irrational due to the existence of the Green Bay Trail a couple hundred yards to the east. When governments do irrational things, one must always look to the real reasons. If the only justification to add a bike lane is to access Federal (I assume Inflation Reduction Act) "Green" infrastructure funding, then this project is an abuse of Federal funding and shows the leadership of Highland Park is willing to injure its citizen's in order to fund pork projects and fuel the construction contractor/political donor complex. That "Green" dollars would be used to cut down trees is a travesty. This project should be immediately referred to the Office of the Inspector General for investigation as to fraudulent misuse and abuse of government funds. Just pay for the resurfacing out of general Highland Park funds. This pork and bloat injures people and property values.

Totally unnecessary. Don’t disturb and destroy for the convenience of a small group. Improve the GB trail if necessary.

First, they voted against lowering the speed limit on this stretch of GB Road, which would have matched the neighboring towns speed limit (much more family friendly town's it now seems) Now they want to make it more unsafe for our children by taking away distance to the street and widening the road? Take away our buffer to the street and trees? Why are they putting our children at more risk of the speeding traffic that they voted for? This is not the family friendly town I thought I moved to. Shame on them.

Constructing a bike lane on Greenbay would destroy trees, be dangerous to bikes. Widening the Greenbay Trail would be more efficient.

I am completely against widening Green Bay Rd to add a bike lane. I am against cutting trees down as well.

There are better and safer paths

I'm going to preface this comment by saying that for whatever reason, this website is indicating that I live in Joliet, even though on my profile I indicate that I LIVE IN HIGHLAND PARK, IL. Adding bike lanes to GBR is a terrible idea. Any plan that would require removing any trees, or creating ROWs, or anything else that would require the loss of any private property is a non-starter. The existing Green Bay Trail is perfectly suited to the vast majority of cyclists. The 2 mile stretch in question here (from Clavey to Central) could easily be renovated to accommodate the needs of the small number of elite riders who prefer a road surface.

Too dangerous with so many driveways and card

Please don't make GBR look like urban sprawl. There's no room for expansion.

Against the tearing down of heritage trees, shrinking parkways for bike lanes. Re-pave as originally planned. Green Bay Trail should work for most cyclists.

There are already alternate bike lanes available. Don’t need more. Too costly and disruptive to the people living in the area.

I drove from Evanston to Highland Park today on Green Bay Road. There are no bike lanes anywhere along that stretch of road. I started to read the documents from the Federal Government and it appears that if Highland Park accepts money to do this road reconstruction the city is then obliged to create bike lanes. Hopefully there are ways to work around this requirement, but it seems that the administration in Highland Park has not addressed the issue. I am opposed to cutting down trees and widening Green Bay Road in any instance.

I live on Green Bay road and very much against the bike lanes. The impact to us as residents taking up the ROW and encroaching into property is a horrible idea. The expansion will change the aesthetics of a beautiful road to one that has upto 85% fewer trees and can’t be replaced because of all the asphalt. Please just repave as it was originally planned.

I am opposed to the bike path. We have a perfectly good path along the train tracks, it's an irresponsible use of tax payer funds, and the increased traffic during the construction would harm residents and local businesses.

I’m against have bike lanes along Green Bay Rd. It’s hard enough pulling out of driveway onto Green Bay Rd. I’m NOT for removing PARKWAY trees that provide somewhat of a buffer. Not willing to decrease my property value.

Bikes should be on St John’s or the bike path. They should not be on a busy street or in front of driveways. GB shouldn’t have construction while the clavey nightmare is ongoing. Also save trees.
