Our Souderton community along with the rest of the world has been very deeply impacted by the Coronavirus Pandemic.

There are so many devoted and talented athletes in our district, who kept bringing so much recognition to the Souderton area not only on the state, but nationwide level as well; and to continue such success, student athletes need to use appropriate sport facilities and individual equipment for their training and workouts. Unfortunately for many of us, the school district had to follow the PA Governor’s order to close our schools and to shut down all student access to any athletic facility in the area as a result. Many of us were forced to stop or to continue our training in unsafe and very inappropriate sports environments.

We take this virus very seriously; we understand the importance of being able to prevent it from spreading any further. For the past few weeks we’ve been doing what's been asked of us, and now, we already see a positive outcome of our combined efforts in lower numbers of the COVID-19 spread.

Recently, PA Governor lifted some restrictions on businesses related to certain outdoor activities “to ensure that Pennsylvanians have opportunities to safely enjoy outdoor recreation as a way to maintain positive physical and mental health”. Considering the fact that Pennsylvania schools are educational institutions operated and supported by the federal, state and local authorities, we believe in our entitlement to the same rights as others statewide to safely enjoy our sport activities.

The Souderton School District Students, request that our school district moves forward with opening up the schools’ athletic facilities starting immediately.

This request is endorsed by Pennsylvania Senator Doug Mastriano and supported by other legislators of our state

Respectfully Yours,

Souderton School District Students
