I live in the "Pure" State of Michigan. It saddens me to know grandparents do not have any rights to their grandchildren. I never thought I would be in a position where I could not see my grandson Kobe, whom I love dearly. The mother is very bitter about the break up between her and my son. She will not let my son see his child. This situation hurts my heart, but I am going to fight and advocate for my grandson Kobe!

I believe grandchildren and grandparents should be able to stay in contact with each other, especially if the Children's parent is deceased and is the child of that grparent. I don't think the children should automatically be placed with a bio parent especially if that parent wasnt a part of the Children's life before the custodial parent passed. I think the child should be allowed to live with the grandparents who were in their lives. I also don't think grandparents should have to go through a bunch of red tape and financial burdens to see their grandchildren or to have custody if the living bio parent wasn't a part of their lives. Most grandparents have already had trauma and financial burdens due to having to pay for funeral arrangements and such for their child that passed.
I also don't feel that Child support owed to the deceased parent should be forgiven, they should make the parent owing child support open a trust account for the child and pay the child support to the child through that account.
I also feel that siblings should not be seperated after the death one of their parents...losing a parent is traumatic in itself, but losing everyone who was a part of the Children's life causes lifelong problems for the children.
Please change laws, not just in Michigan but across the USA to stop the Grandchild/Grandparent alienation.

My Grand children live in Arkansas and I witnessed abuse and neglect. My daughter-in-law did not and still doesn't want me to be a part of my son's life or my. Grand sons they just gave birth to another baby. They paddled my oldest grand son abusively and made him stay in his room for 6-8hrs a day. Wasbt fed regularly unless my son prepared it. He was sent toher parents home because they didnt want to be bothered. Soo many things I could report. Did report to child protective services in the county they live. CPS investigated and said they couldn't tell me anything. Then the parents have not allowed me visitation and limited phone calls. And have taught him that his mom's sister is me so now he doesn't even know who I am. My heart is shattered!!

A large percentage of grandparents are raising their grandchildren with no financial help from the absent parent and most do not expect any. Grandparents just want to love, nurture and make sure their grandchildren are safe. Then the absent parent is legally able to just take the child back at any given time without proof of a decent home or any employment. TIME FOR THIS CHANGE.

We need to pass a law that gives grandparents the right to see their Grandkids. Keeping them from the Grandparents is a form of child abuse. Also not good for the child to be keep from an important part of their family.

Yes more needs to be done to have common sense reign in our court system. Children deserve good grandparents to be kept in their life regardless of the parent's issues.

I feel for you, Laura. Objecting to her ideas does not give her the right to keep you from your grandchildren. I agree with her as far as no immunizations and I love raw milk myself, it is the best, but still that is no reason to keep the kids from you. They deserve the love of their grandmother. I hope you are trying to repair the relationship.

I had to spend thousands of dollars in court costs and lawyer fees to see the granddaughter I raised the first nearly 13 years of her life. When she was placed with her dad (who never paid child support and barely saw her) he decide I couldn't see her. The courts said other wise. She is almost 17 years old now and will soon be moving back with me. He has lost her love and respect.

Grandchildren should never be able to be used as bargaining chips or weapons for their parents to try to get what they want. We are seeing more and more every day the new generation of parents using their children against the child's grandparents to get what they want. This is nothing shy of emotional abuse and that is also child abuse.

My daughter won't let me see my grandchildren because I objected to her fad diet, no immunizations and non-pasteurized milk. Acting in the best interests of my grandchildren made me lose them.
