The Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs held its first regional conference in Granada, Nicaragua on March 23rd - 26th, 2010. Over 140 development professionals, impact entrepreneurs, and impact investment fund managers representing 77 organizations from 16 countries gathered together to discuss better ways of working together to fight poverty in the poorest regions of Latin America through sustainable, impact-driven small business. On the evening of March 25th, in an island in the middle of Lake Nicaragua, the delegates pledged their support for the Granada Declaration. We invite anyone committed to helping unleash the potential of a new generation of small business entrepreneurs to fight global poverty to sign the declaration.

The Granada Declaration

We hereforth commit to create a more just, prosperous, and sustainable world by building an ecosystem throughout Latin America where small and growing businesses and responsible entrepreneurship can thrive. Through our individual and collective efforts we pledge to support those entrepreneurial women and men who, through their businesses, create social, environmental, and economic value for their families, their communities, and the planet. We reaffirm the belief that those societies that offer their citizens, regardless of circumstances or birth, the opportunity and support to grow sustainable, dynamic business, are the most successful kinds of societies. Today we sign this declaration to unite around a common mission: to support a new generation of impact entrepreneurs working tirelessly to address our most pressing social and economic challenges. We enter into this declaration and put forward our commitment to its promise on this day, the 25th of March, Two-thousand and ten, in the city of Granada, Nicaragua.
