Granada Hills Charter High School: Anti-Dress Code

About damn time

I'm part of the 2013 graduating class. Any detention I accumulated my 4 years were from dress code. I've learned to appreciate the rules because Granada is a well-established institution that needs to be upheld; however, I often felt victimized and sexualized by its over stimulated dress code. I was part of the soccer team and we were prohibited from wearing our entire uniform on game days because our shorts were a dress code violation. That on its own speaks volumes.

Granada's dress code is ridiculous. So glad I'm in college now where the focus is on my education and not my attire. Hope GHCHS decides to do the same.

I was an good student, yet I almost didn't get to walk across the stage because of all the detentions I recieved from being dress coded. It isn't fair that I was punished so much for dressing the way i felt.

I graduated from Granada in 2013 but prior to that I attended a private school for 11 years of my life. One thing I always found ridiculous was the fact that Granada was way more strict than the private schools. It was ridiculously stressful trying to find clothes that were deemed "dress code friendly". Even the slightest lifting of a t-shirt was grounds for detention. I really hope this petition pulls through. It's beyond time to change this stigma that what a girl wears is somehow damaging to their own and others education. I know for a fact it is entirely possible for fellow students to learn without any trouble if I choose to wear a tank top and shorts.

End the sexist, misogynistic dress code that only promotes male centric views in society.

When I went to Granada I got detention because my tank was 1 1/2 inches and not 2inches. The rules they have for females is to much and not fair at all

Good to see this petition up and running very well! Although I'm not in HS anymore, I'd support this all the way with how the way faculty, even though they were following policy and procedure, treated many female and even male students on clothing. If it's hot, humans have every natural right to wear comfortable clothing (obviously in this case it is with the exception of "too revealing" because it is school with a bunch of kids ages 14-17/18).

The bra strap rule is ridiculous

I attended Granada hills charter high school in 2011 and as a tall female student (5'10) no matter what I wore seemed "inappropriate" and being sent to detention everyday was a major distraction on my education. Free expression through clothing (within reason of course) shouldn't be getting in the way of proper education.

We should be able to wear what is comfortable as long as it is not revealing.

Love this! I'm so glad someone is finally taking a stand against this issue.
