Granada Hills Charter High School: Anti-Dress Code

Unnecessary detention hours and time spent in the office rather than in the class rooms.

I graduated from Granada a long time ago, and they still haven't changed their dress code. Update it, but don't TOTALLY scrap the entire idea of dress code.

I think the admin will try and work out what's best for students.

Yes I agree, which is why if you read the last part of the petition you would see that I do say this petition alone will not work. A proposal must be made in addition to legitimate statistics that must be calculated. I do take your honest opinion into consideration though and respect you for that.

I graduated 2014 and the dress code is in fact sexist. Girls were coded left and right while the boys walked right passed the staff wearing shirts which were cut along the sides so you could see their side, stomach and nipples. I DONT WANT TO SEE THEIR NIPPLES! Granada, I loved being a student at your school and part of that was because of how strict you were and the fact that, unlike most schools, you enforced those rules. They were rediculous rules (no holding hands? Really?) but you enforced them and I respected that. But there is no doubt that you are sexist when it comes to the dress code and that was my greatest disappointment with you.

I have been dress coded multiple times for having my UNDERSHIRT straps showing. I have since graduated, but it's time Granada set some new, reasonable rules.

As a firm believer of the need for rules, but rules that are appropriate, I do believe Granada's dress code rules are off the charts and unnecessary more often than not. Even my parents are astounded that I get dress-coded with the clothes I wear to school, which even to them are completely okay. This whole double standard type situation is completely ridiculous. (I especially HATE the rule against leggings which I NEED to wear when we learn choreo and dance in class which is twice a week. Most times I just rely on getting away with them just so I can be able to move properly in that class. I don't see why it's wrong, my underwear isn't seen at all in it, or anything provocative! Plus girls in cheer etc. are allowed to wear anything they want anytime. So am I seeing TRIPLE standards now?) Honestly, if I saw that 100% of these rules are necessary then I'd comply with them 100% as well. But like I said, even as someone who believes in rules for keeping order, I think these are just way off. Give me detention hours all you want, Granada, but I'm not stupid and I certainly do not lack in any respect for myself or anyone around me.

Hi Cynthia. I graduated Granada in 2013. I completely agree with your petition and gladly support you. There definitley needs to be changes in the absurd dress code policy. Thank you for being the voice of all the girls who attended and continue to attend Granada.

I go here, currently - the dress code is simply absurd. There's a clear double standard when it comes to who is target for being against code. It's also absurdly hot in the valley, and it's a literal health and safety issue to have to "cover up" in such extreme weather.

Graduated in 2014-- the only thing I remember was sweating like a maniac during the Summer because of the strict dress code.
