Granada Hills Charter High School: Anti-Dress Code

Of course. just trying to help the cause. Just it finally seems some administrators are finally looking into this. But the proposal is not all that bad. Yes we should stick with the petitions for now, but I shall soon speak with Ms. Dunn on the subject of a proposal. I could even ask my counselors and social worker at school to take part. But this is a start to finally changing the dress code. It needs to be changed because I know not just me, but many girls are sick and tired of getting detention for simple things such as straps and shorts and stuff like that. It all seems very pitiful that they have such restrictive dress codes for a "great" learning environment. They should be more focused on education than the "provocative" clothing of females.

@ Alyssa, I do not think that will work. This is a topic students have been battling with for years and clearly, the administration could care less since they get paid for doing their job, which is literally to walk around and issue detention for absurd reasons. We could try and submit a proposal but we must first reach our goal in this petition. We have to take extreme lengths in order for them to take action and that involves not only telling students at Granada but outside the school as well. Telling not only students, but adults at our local grocery stores, churches, hospitals, etc. I will be trying to organize ways in which certain stores can help raise awareness but until then, we just have to continue fighting. Thanks so much for your emails and concerns though.

Lori Zaragoza (an administrator at GHCHS) Student services is actually the committee made up of representatives from all the different constituencies. Ms. Dunn is the chairperson. The students who are the representatives are on ASB so you may want to check with Mr. Munkres to find out who they are exactly. Also I am sorry I think I gave you the wrong dates for the meetings. The next meeting is March 31 so you may want to attend. The meeting place is in room A7 at 3:30. Prior to that meeting, Ms. Dunn will be meeting with the Council of Councils so if you want to submit a proposal, please do so within the next week or so. The April meeting is on the 28th and that is in the same room at the same time. If you have any further questions about the schedule or the process, please see Ms. Dunn in the Deans' Office.

I agree. Unfortunately we live in a day and age where people over sexualize females and their bodies. That makes absolutely no sense at all. The school is making dressing for the day an unnecessary inconvenience. Girls shouldn't have to worry if what they're wearing or how they look. I say it's inappropriate for boys/men to consider an exposed shoulder, midriff, or bra strap to be distracting and arousing. Why put all the pressure and judgement on girls for how the opposition gender reacts to how they look? It's ridiculous how strict the dress code is for girls.

We should be allowed to wear hats and people should wear what they want as long as it's legal in public, because were exposed to it everyday outside of school so the school is not protecting us from it there's no point to seclude everyone from what they want because clothing is a way people express themselves so for Granada to stop people it is not right or ok what if we dress coded the teachers to a criteria met by students some teachers would not be ok with that so Granada needs to stop doing that to students.

Stop permitting rape culture and sexualizing women. Gender roles were cool in 1950, but it's 2016 and a girl's bra strap and stomach isn't going to make my fellow highlander's horny. Thank you and goodnight

Should have happened a long time ago

it's about time we stand up for what we believe in. Boys need to be taught how to control their feeling. We shouldn't have to suffer in 100 degree heat because of some people who can't stand see legs, a bra strap, etc... I hope we get enough signatures for this.

I graduated a few years ago and the dress code was ridiculous back then, so I can only imagine how it is now.

I have witnessed my friends being dress coded for the most obscure reasoning and I feel that the current dresscode should be taken into concideration as to who its truly benifiting.
