You came up in conversation last night. Congratulations on all you have accomplished, whether Mr. Byrd recognizes it or not. I hope he realizes that there's a tradition here that should be honored --- and that the kids who went above and beyond should sit together.

I think that this is rediculous and is breaking from a huge and long tradition. I have never even heard of something like this happening at graduation. Fix it. Before administration loses any respect they might have had before.

This is atrocious! My son could have graduated in December but chose to take one more class just so he could graduate with honors. These kids deserve the recognition for their hard work. Mr Byrd, you are not using your head!

I just want to be able to highlight my accomplishments for my high school career. I was so excited to sit on the first couple rows at graduation and now I feel like theres no point. I went from rank 12 to 9 this year just so I could hopefully sit on the front row. I know it's not a big deal for some people, but it's a big deal for me. I'm not trying to be disrespectful at all, and if he doesn't change his mind I won't go crazy with anger, but I just hope he changes his mind. It's really important to me.

As a 2006 (NCS) graduate, I am very upset to hear this. While our graduation did not have this I'm very glad to hear they have started, as each student should be recognized for their dedication and achievement. WJHS - if this is an attempt to not "single students out" or maybe to hurry the ceremony along in some way, I hope you seriously reconsider! Though I do hope this is a hoax as I can't imagine not recognizing students; and the ones who did not go the extra mile should not be the cause of why the honors recognition is now being stopped. I will also say this, not every student wants to, or even needs to, graduate with honors. Some of those students will go to a labor field and that is just as admirable. With that said, that still should not be seen as singling out (if that is in fact the reason of this). As a mother I will be extremely proud of my child when she graduates many years from now, so I know each family and student are proud regardless of the diploma "status" they receive.

Graduating with high honors or honors at Cleveland HS is no easy feat and the students that achieve such accomplishments should be honored at graduation. We celebrate student achievement outside of the classroom (ie: athletics, the arts); we need to recognize academic achievement as well!

Encourage those who have worked hard to achieve. Don't take a "you didn't build that, someone helped you " attitude. This type of leadership doesn't need to be happening in our schools. Parents should get out in force to express their displeasure.
