Graduation Outrage

It is a shame that our educational system fails to recognize the good student, but, instead, caters to the mediocrity .

This is not the way to teach our future leaders ! Showing us you do not know how to lead make the right choice you should step down as principal of Cleveland High and never return to the teaching field again ! Try to learn from this mistake !!

I have already graduated from Cleveland. I worked hard to get my High Honors. The last thing I would want is for me to be lumped with those who didn't care enough to put in effort.

Those students who achieve high honors and honors deserve to get special recognition. I find it hard to believe that their efforts would go unrecognized.

Every student deserves the recognition that they earned.

As a grandparent of a former student who graduated with high honors and having a current future graduate in CvHS I feel the original tradition should remain in place.

So, we don't acknowledge hard work and excellence. This is what is wrong with society today. Everyone gets a trophy.

Very Disappointed in Mr Byrd and the adminstration.... We encourage all our kids to do their best and therefore they deserve support and recognization for their hard work. Depriving these kids of that is selfish and just down right wrong. Really pray this is not a final decision and he will put the students first on his decision for graduation. Proud of you all class of 2016

I graduated last year as the Cleveland High School Class of 2015 Salutatorian and I know that being recognized for this honor after four years of hard work was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I know the students from the Class of 2016 have worked day in and day out so that come graduation they would be rewarded for that hard work. Not recognizing students for achieving high honors and honors is the same as telling them that their hard work over the past four years doesn't matter. Hard work should be rewarded, not swept aside. I hope that this ridiculous rule is changed before a whole class of graduates is punished for striving to be better. Good luck to the Class of 2016.

Recognize the honor students!

Honor the kids

These students who have graduated with honors have worked extremely hard to get to where they are they deserve the recognition.

Give recognition when it is deserved.

Let's recognize those students whom are graduating with honors etc. They deserve the recognition. Stop rewarding mediocrity. Let them have their day. A new principal doesn't mean everything has to change.

We need to show our excitement and respect for our children who have academically excelled at school, at academics. This is, after all, why they go to school. No one bats an eye at dinners and evenings designated to promote our athletes. Graduation is the time to acknowledge the hard work and excellence of our students who have done so well in their academic studies. They are our future. Acknowledge their hard work by allowing them this privilege that they have earned.

Competion breeds excellence,for the kid that wasn't an all-star recruit or that even played sports etc.This was some of these kids goals and for you to place your socialism agenda on these kids is an outrage.I hope this was a simple mistake on trying to speed things up ,i really do or you were pressured in to making this decission,but your suppose to be the man with fuzzy ones ,so make it right PERIOD!!!!

Academic excellence should be recognized. Students work hard for a reason; getting individual recognition being one of them.

As a sophomore at CvHS I am in the process of working so that I can graduate with high honors at graduation. While calling out the names alphabetically won't cause me to work any less it does put a significant damper on my goals of being in the first rows at graduation. This means more than just graduation. This signifies many other aspects of society that are moving towards rewarding all equally despite the fact that some have achieved higher. Throughout all of time giving everyone the same rewards has caused a decrease in the motivation of the people and a decrease in productivity. Why work hard when you aren't going to get recognition for the effort that you have put in? That's the question that many younger students at CvHS are now left to face. Many will still work as hard because higher achieving students usually have that built inside them but there are some that will fall through the cracks and stop working towards a goal that they can no longer achieve.

Students work hard for this kind of recognition. Don't steal that moment from them now.
