Giving special attention to those that have truly worked very hard is a good idea. These are young adults and giving a trophy to every student is no longer an option. I am curious to know why this change is being made. Perhaps an explanation would help the student understand Mr. Byrd's goal and reason for the change. Discussion is important.

These students work diligently to accomplish these academic levels, so it only makes sense that they should be recognized first as a way of honoring all of their hard work. This is how I've always known graduation ceremonies to take place, and history has repeated itself in this respect for a reason. Any proud parent and sibling would naturally want their loved one to be honored and acknowledged in such a way. Out of respect for my siblings and any other students who have achieved such prestigious academic levels, I strongly support this petition for the aforementioned reasons.

This should never have been changed to alphabetical order in the first place. Graduation is a time to honor those whom have tried their best all 4 years and be honored for their hard work!

One issue that I have with the petition is that Byrd isn't deciding to completely ignore the achievements of all of the students who've worked their (pardon my French) asses off to get where they are today. All it seems that he's going to do is change the order of the names being called out, but still say "John Doe, High Honors, NHS" or whatever. I don't feel that this should be irrationally vetoed by the student body, but rather opened up to a discussion to further understand every angle of this issue before coming to well-informed conclusion.

As an alumni from the first graduating class of Cleveland, it makes me sad to see that the freshmen that were there when I was a senior do not get the same recognition for their achievements as I did. Mr. Byrd, these honors & high honors students work diligently to make Cleveland such a great school and should be rewarded for four years worth of hard work and dedication.

When I graduated I wasn't in honors or high honors, and I had no problem watching my friends that have worked hard all 4 years go before me. This isn't what life is going to be like, not everyone gets a participation award. If you work hard, you should get recognized for it. Period.

I don't attend Cleveland, but not recognizing students by honors and high honors is ridiculous. These students work way too hard to be called alphabetically.

I am not even a senior and I know when I graduate, I will want to be recognized for my achievements. This is completely unfair for the people that actually tried to achieve good grades, they deserve to stand out at graduation.

My daughter has worked extremely hard and deserves to be recognized for her achievements. Unfortunately everybody does not get a trophy in real life! I expect her to be rewarded publicly.

I have instilled good values in my children and feel that their hard work and extra effort in school should be acknowledged! You will be hurting them and the classes that follow by ignoring their accomplishments.
The school has a responsibility to all the students to encourage and celebrate achievements!

I agree 100% to this. I worked so hard and my last name starts with a 'Y' and I didn't want to be called last at graduation. I was so excited for this day because I wasn't going to be at the end of the list. But now im back to square one
