I am a parent of 2016 graduate and agree that not having graduation on the FB field is a major disappointment. The kids were told that having it in the Gym would mean they would get 3-5 tickets for guests to attend. My question is this. Why can't using the FB field on May ## be written into the renovation contract. The renovations would not have to be completely finished but with this much notice, it would be the company's responsibility to make sure the field would be in a usable condition for that date. The finishing touches on the press box (for example) could be completed afterwards.

When my granddaughter first told me of the change of venue of graduation and how upset she was, I suggested a petition. Glad to see someone took the initiative, now if only the BOE listens, if not graduates, STRIKE. DONT SHOW UP. STAND UP FOR YOUR RIGHTS. YOU. DESERVE THIS

This is where I've been wanting to graduate since my sister did. I believe we deserve it.

Graduation should be on the football field for all seniors and their families not just a few for the gym. This is very disappointing for seniors, parents, and grandparents. Gilmer High School wake up and show the seniors they are important.

Graduation is a milestone that deserves recognition . . . football field can, and should, wait if necessary.

My son is a senior and he has worked very hard to get to this point. Don't deny the class of 2016 and their parents this "traditional" opportunity.

This is ridiculous. Why is this even a problem? Go Gilmer.

These students literally work their asses off for 13-14 years to be honored for their hard work and dedication. When a school deems Sports higher than that of a real education, you have a major problem in your School System. Let the kids have what they've worked so hard for!! Whatever needs to get done on that field can wait until after graduation. This is simply sickening and very unfair to every student who will walk for that diploma in 2016.

As the Guardian of a future graduate in a couple of years I would love for all family members to celebrate this accomplishment with their child or beloved family member.

Class of 2016 deserves the field for graduation. Our children have worked hard for this and their families and friends should get to see them walk across that field. I was told that the principal and superintendent are the ones that make the decision on where graduation will be held, so they are the ones we need to contact and have our voice be heard. -Mom of a 2016 senior

Keep the tradition in GHS graduation.

I am in full support of graduation on the football field. There is never enough room in the gym. Graduation day is a huge milestone much more important than an eleven-week football season.

I think you should postpone the reconstruction until after graduation. These young people deserve that..Thank you

I am graduating this year in 2016, i think we should have it on the football field cause it went well last year. Reconstruction can wait till after graduation cause if we don't get to walk it will be unfair we will be one of THE ONLY CLASS that doesn't get to walk.

As someone with a big family and a graduate of Gilmer High 2011, I think all future classes deserve to graduate on the football field. It was so stressful on those with big families having to pick which 10 family members could make it to graduation, one of the biggest days of a person's life. Graduates have worked hard to get where they are and deserve to have all of their family members, friends, mentors, and those who have helped along the way there to celebrate them. Football wouldn't even be an option without students there to work hard. Let them have a chance to celebrate their accomplishments. It may be some people's only graduation as they pursue other things in their lives, such as defending our country or raising their families. They deserve this more than the town deserves a new football field.
