7th hour fees should not exist for students that have a full schedule. If the kids want to do orchestra, band, or choir all 4 years and go to EVIT they have to take extra classes every year just to meet the requirements. We should not have to pay for this.

Public schools should be receiving the funds voted on by there general public. Quit maneuvering budgets and let the public schools have their fair share of the budget !!!

We pay such a high price for Matching Band & Drumline, & the $2400 trip for band. I cannot continue to pay these high fees.

My child is in marching band and we pay fees for that and the student's practice hard. No way as a parent I want to pay another fee !

This fee has huge flaws in who it affects. Waivers should be an option for those who are in a situation in which it can't be avoided. Coming from marching band, we already had to pay to take the class, and this fee piled more on top of it and caused teachers to charge less, thus having even less money going into the program. This fee is hurting extracurriculars by keeping people out who can't afford it.

Thank goodness my children have already graduated from school, but I have grandchildren now attending. I have been very active in the Band Boosters since 1999 and I have seen the number of students dwindle and the fees double. Adding this $160 fee on top of the other fees needed to run the Marching Band Program is not fair to the parents, and not fair to the many students who cannot afford to take Marching Band because of the additional $160 fee. I agree whole heartedly with this petition, and I hope that the School District will realize the important part our Arts and Music play in keeping students in our Gilbert Public Schools.

I would concur that the marching band fees that we already incur are quite extensive and adding a 7th hour class fee is challenging for all of us. Our school and band director have put a tremendous effort into growing our band programs and we already lost 10 students to marching band due to the fees. We will only lose more, not grow if the fees keep going up.

I do not believe a fee should be charged for a 7th class. My children have repeated some classes due to a couple of inadequate teachers. Why should we be penalized for that?

The annual school fees are a challenge for many families, including ours as we strive to provide diverse learning experiences for our son. The additional $160 class fee should be eliminated permanently not just during election years as bait to secure votes. For us, band fees and other class fees are already a challenge without yet another $160 fee.

My son is a Senior this year and has release time for the last hour of the school day so he is not required to pay the fee this year, but he has taken A hour Strolling Strings for all 4 years so this has affected him in previous years.

This class fee is ridiculous and needs to be removed. Most of the programs that this fee covers, cost parents money to just be in the sport/class already. My son is in Marching Band and we pay in excess of $500 not including any special events for the season. Why should we pay the district an additional $160 when that doesn't necessarily benefit our child in the program he/she are in?

This fee is in addition to what families already pay for extra curricular activities plus concurrent courses. When adding all the class fee's and extras curricular fee's, uniform fee's, my family pays over $2000 a year. This is a financial burden to most families, especially those with multiple children in the district. School should not be a burden to families and extra curricular actives should not be considered a privilege.

Many of us worked very hard to make sure the bond was passed prior to last school year and last year we did not have to pay the extra fee of $160. This year it was back on - I'm disappointed that our school board, once they got the money they were hoping for, now is charging us again. A good compromise would be for concurrent enrollment courses such as Marching Band to be no additional cost to families. Time to make it right and just.

It is unfair to require students who participate in the co-curricular arts and honors programs to pay extra fees in addition to the already high expenses they have . Especially after the start of the school year, with no warning. It is bad practice to require this from parents now and hide behind the fine print of last year justifying adding this back onto student's account.

We have voted and passed propositions to help our schools and keep our teachers. SHOW US WHERE THE MONEY IS GOING. WHY ARE WE PAYING FOR EVERYTHING THAT WAS ONCE COVERED BY THE SCHOOL? YOU SHOULD BE COVERING FOR BUSES TO FOOTBALL GAMES FOR THE MARCHING BAND MEMBERS. LOOK AT YOUR NEIGHBORING SCHOOL DISTRICT. THEY OFFER MORE FOR THEIR STUDENTS. CONTINUE TO DO NOTHING AND YOU WILL SEE AN INCREASE OF STUDENTS LEAVING THE DISTRICT TO GO TO THOSE THAT DO.

Taxing each individual student an extra $160 per class for a reasonable public education is not good policy. Families with two children are asked to pay $640 a year, or $2560 before both graduate. Some families would be billed much more.
The bond override passed showing that Gilbert supports quality education, and it should be used wisely. Gilbert Public Schools already has cut the budget by starting the music programs late in elementary school. Music and the arts are valuable, essential classes that improve academic performance as well as teach life essential skills. These classes should be available to all students without financial discrimination.
