I have kids in sports and music and need release time, therefore I am paying for fees upon fees, upon fees. Please waive this in certain instances.

Marching band and the other bands come with their own set of fees. An additional $160 is too much for a lot of families to afford. The district has already extracted $10M beyond budget (at a cost of $19M+ payback), it seems like students (and their families) who are dedicated enough to enroll in a 7th hour class shouldn't have to pay extra.

We are not able to fit all of our classes in with orchestra and released time and would like to be able to fulfill all requirements.

Ditto what Gary Drury says. Let's not discourage students from reaching for the stars by making it difficult for parents to support their efforts!

You're attacking our pockets, why don't you come out of your pockets to pay for it?

Constant fees and constant fundraising are breaking many parents. With multiple students its even worse. Band already has high fees. The students make a huge commitment of time and effort in to this program, with very long hours to support their school , this should be a consideration. To add more fees, would only add more strain and frustration for all and possibly have students reconsider this commitment for follow up years. Please get rid of this fee.

It is unfair to have to pay fees for concurrent enrollment classes.

Kids that are more involved in their school's extra curriculum actives and represent the school are the ones having to pay for this extra class when they already pay to be in such programs, and spend hundreds of hours during the year practicing and in competitions.

My child is involved in Marching Band which comes with large fees to be a part of. It doesn't seem right to have to pay an additional fee for a course where fees are required in order to participate. And where salaries of those instructors are being covered by the required fees being paid. The district does not need to cover those instructors fees.

This particular school year, we shelled out nearly a $1000 for marching/concert band. Out that amount, $880 were fees alone. That's right $880 for ONE semester. Since the fee was already assessed and paid, I think it is only appropriate for GPS to adequately explain where the additional funds were applied. GPS received an additional $16,000 in revenue from one school alone. Did those funds go to pay staff an extended contract? New instruments? Additional travel expenses?
Finally, last year GPS was able to state that ALL five of their high school marching bands earned a top five finish in the state in their respective divisions. But as students and parents are financially squeezed out by the rising fees, programs suffer as do families who cannot muster the ever-increasing fees.

You already increased our property taxes that should be enough! If anything tax the students that don't live within the Gilbert boundaries and coming to our schools they are not being affect by the property tax increase.

My son has an extra class because of marching band. We already pay fees to be a part of this program, so it makes absolutely NO sense to pay an additional fee to the district for this class. This is unfair.

I do not believe this Fee should be in place. With Marching Band only being A hour we have no choice & have been stuck paying this & the group is out on the field so not even in the buildings!! I am happy to sign this petition out of frustration of this fee being enforced. Thank you!
