The university has reversed the decision to cut the MA Participatory and Community Arts course. I am bone tired from this fight but we won. We must stay alert to ensure they uphold this commitment moving forward.

After 10 years of being ahead of the curve in terms of social education, practice and collaboration; we cannot believe that Goldsmiths can deem MA Participatory and Community Arts unnecessary. The feedback from the administration remains discouraging and cold. I am exhausted by the constant silence but your stories in the comments keep me pushing forward.

Seeing this level of support keeps me going when the silence from the university feels heavy. This momentum suggests that people are finally recognizing the true value of the work we have been doing for a decade.

How are we to address the problems with funding and policy if we do not educate those who will take part in them? At the time of the explosion of participatory arts, Goldsmiths, after being the leader in the field takes itself out of it, crippling the possibility for banking on its success. This way, the university is outsourcing its main resource - the skills and knowledge that will now be utilised by others. I do not know what is worse - the business acumen or the intellectual one that the management holds...
Goldsmiths has an international reputation for creativity, innovation, positivity and equality. their arts students engage with the community and other faculties/ students and ideas. This is the sort of thinking we need in our universities and post grad students.
Studied here years ago and it completely changed my approach to practice. Cutting this is a real shame for the next generation of students.
ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. HOW CAN YOU JUST SCRAP A COURSE THAT IS SO INTEGRAL TO THE ARTS SCENE IN LONDON??
this is such a short sighted decision by the uni. community arts is more vital than ever right now and guldsmiths were the leaders. gutted to hear this is happening.

Goldsmiths prides itself on being “internationally renowned for our creative and innovative approach to teaching and research.” For me, this course defines these values, inspiring confidence in creativity and collaboration. To say that it has been cut I find dumbfounding and can only lead me to question Goldsmiths’ integrity.
