My husband's first name was Lawrence. I've always loved that name.My husband said NO ! Our youngest daughter is named, Laura.Ia anybody is interested in genealogy, repeating a first name can become very confusing. Compromise and settle on a beloved first name and place "Spyridon" as a middle name

Spyridon... It's got "spy" in it. That should appease former Soviet sensibilities.

I think the loss of cultural traditions is sad. I am Iriah and Ireland is the only country in the world to have 2 offical languages yet very few people speak Irish (Gaelic) and now the language is dying. You can give him the traditional name and call him by a nickname is you have to but I like both the name and the tradition.

before one marries to a Greek should know that naming our kids after our parents is expected. Never regretted after my parents who gave all for their kids. It is respect. If your kid doesn;t like the name, he can change it when he is 18 years old.

There will be hundreds of other Michaels in his school s through the years (if baby is a boy), but as someone who grew up with a unique name themselves - having a first name that no one has heard before is fun! Sure, it's been mispronounced a million times, but I still love my name. I've only met one other Kayta in all my 29 years. I don't think Spyridon will even meet that mark and I mean that in the best way. Maybe Michael could be the middle name?
