Tradition is Tradition! same for Arab's, I named my son (not after my dad, my brother took care of that) but would be greatly honored if/when my son names his son after me. Without our kids to carry out cultural traditions, CULTURE DIES. Get over it wife! or you'll just end up vanilla bland blobs just walking the planet like the vast majority of others out there without culture.

Love Spyridon, it has a more unique cultural association to it than Michael. Plus, men should name the babies....tradition and all. :)

In this day, there are so many off-the-wall names, that are ans are not easily pronounced, that nothing is off-limits (well, maybe Bitcoin). Many of these names have nothing to do with family or heritage. Tradition, being what it is, seems to have fallen but for the strong and proud. I see nothing wrong with honoring "Spyridon", as it is neither cookie cutter or outlandish in nature. A good solid name to carry proudly and help toward establishing pride in his family and heritage. He can receive her Father's name of Michael for his middle name and be very proud of both sides of his heritage. Many fall into the frey of leaving tradition and heritage, which is not necessarily wrong, but look how much has been lost in abandoning the same. Many don't know anything of their ancestors or roots, or values of the past. I saw a comment that he can be named Michael Spyridon, and choose later which he wants to be called primarily. Why can the same not be said for Spyridon Michael? I think it will be a good solid name on which he can build a strong character.

It's a real name. Not a stupid make a phony name up to be unique. Unique is good. He can go by Spy or a nickname or not later.

While Michael is a nice name, it's nothing special, and it leaves the child to share his average name with boys everywhere he goes. It's also incredibly unfair that the father does not get full rights to his son's name if it's been agreed that the mother gets full rights to a daughter's name--surely these are lovely people who can be more reasonable than that. Last, Spyridon is actually a really beautiful, dignified name. I hope you guys make the right long term choice by giving your child something unique and special. Not enough people are good enough to do this for their kids, and so we go through life knowing a confusing amount of Davids, Ashleys, Amandas, and Michaels. Don't settle on something normal. Be great enough to choose something truly strong, unique, and respectable!

My grandfather past away before I was born. My name, Epaminondas, is my only tangible connection to the man that gave his whole life to his family and his faith. I’m 25 years old and I've grown up near San Francisco where everyone was blond hair blue eyed with names like billy and jeffrey. You know what happens to those people? They fit in with the crowd and are forgotten about. People remember me in large part due to my name. Going through life with a difficult Greek name makes you stick out and yes it is hard to deal with at times but it will make your son stronger and it will give him the confidence knowing who he is and where he comes from. When my oldest was born we agreed that if it was a boy my husband could name him. My only stipulation was that I did not want a common name that he would be one of six or more in his classes at school. I think having a unique name is wonderful for your child and my son who is grown now wholeheartedly agrees. He loves his name and the fact that it makes him an individual in a crowd.

Its his heritage and if the live in NYC its not that odd of a name. Just give him a nickname if she doesn't like it, but his father should be able to name him if its in regards to tradtion.

I believe although it is an unusual name, it is exactly WHY you should name it that. Too many people have the same exact name. My children are all named after Star Trek Characters.. Kira, Sarek, and Riker. Don't hear those names often... Makes them more unique! Good Luck.
