We named our son Declan after an Irish Saint. He corects people all the time and loves his name. This is original. Lets break the mold and step away from Mike and John easy picks. Is the wife want's Michael, I agree make that his middle name.

Father gets first name, mother gets middle name if it's a boy baby. Spyridon is a cool name!

Like someone said earlier, keep with tradition. The child can choose to shorten or give himself a nickname that fits his character later on. I did that with my oldest daughter (Zaharoula) which I named after my husbands mother. Yet, my grandmother, sister, and cousin have the same name (Zaharoula). All agree that they do not care for it and have changed it to either Susie and/or Roula. My daughter did not change her name from Zaharoula until she was in 7th Grade. Up until then, she loved her name because it was unique. She only changed it because people had such a hard time pronouncing it. She went from Zackie to Zaha to Susie. She tried a few different names until she found the one that she liked. Yet, in our house and with the remainder of the extended family, she will always be called Zaharoula.

If she gets the female name, he should get the male name. It's only fair.

You have got to be kidding me? I know there are many people who have strong feelings about naming their child after their father or grandfather but we have to admit that years ago odd names were more accepted than they are now. Why on earth would you want to do this to your child? That is an awful name and he will HATE IT. Go with Michael and if you MUST use that as a middle name or a nick name but don't scar that child for life with that name.

I almost married a Greek gentelman and he wanted to name first born George. I hate the name George but understood the tradition. You are lucky Spyridon is awesome name! You can always go by the middle name!

I like Spyridon Michael Soukeras. That way both Grandfathers are in and if the child doesn't like Spyridon, he can go by Michael. There really are too many Michaels, it's just so overused.
