If the kid doesn't like the name, he can just use a nickname like "spy" or "don".

I think your points are fair and concessions are made by the husband. Michael is way to common. If you both can't agree, then don't use either grandparent name and come up with a new name.

Why not join the two names together. When my sister was born, her father's name is Joe, and our Mother's name is Ann. So they combined JoAnn, it fits! But in this case I think Michael Spyridon Soukeras, is a very nice name. Kind of exotic, and I'm sure he will definitely appreciate that later.

Spyro is good enough for a US Vice-President, it should be good for the kid as well.

I'm sorry but I have to agree with your wife. If you want make that the middle name but not the first. I've gone my whole life with a strange name and it's not good the different things that people find to call you. I'm sure you realize he would be made fun of because of that name. Then I inturn named my son after two grandfathers because I wanted to call him EJ (Emil John) and if I have to say his first name people always think I'm saying Emily and they think he's a girl.

Family names are important to retain. Let mom choose middle name, and later child can decide which one he prefers to use.

BEING A MOTHER OF THREE , I CAN SEE BOTH SIDES. ON ONE HAND YOU HAVE MOM WHO DOESNT WANT A STRANGE NAME AND ON THE OTHER HAND U HAVE DAD WITH TRADITION.WHILE BOTH MAKE VALID POINTS CONSIDER THIS...IN THIS DAY AND AGE HOW MANY MICHEALS ARE THERE?.. MY GUESS IS MILLIONS. A NAME LIKE SPYRIDON IS UNIQUE BUT CONSIDER THE FACT THAT IDENTITY THIEFT WOULD BE DIFFICULT FOR SOMEONE TO TRY .IN THE LONG RUN YOU WOULD BE HELPING YOUR CHILD BY PROCTECTING THEM WITH A NAME LIKE SPYRIDON. GOOD LUCK TO U BOTH .
