Godly Right to Name First-Born Son Spyridon

When he gets older he will appreciate the cultural name, I know I didn't until I got to college and I love being unique.

Spyridon is way better than Michael. There are a million Michaels everywhere. Never met a Spyridon.

I think it's a very unique and interesting name! I also agree about naming children after their grandparents. That's a very thoughtful tradition in book! both of my children have either their 1st or middle name from a family member...Neither of them go by their "family" name but that's ok! I have to side with the husband on this one.

I agree with Dad. Spyridon is a great name! Americans DO need to learn how to pronounce ethnic names, especially since this country is founded on immigrants. There is an overabundance of palin names in this country. Spyridon represent strengtrh, character & greatness, all attributes one would want reflected in a male child. The possibilities of another Spyridon in his classroom in less than 1%. The tradition of naming a male child after grandfathers is wonderful one, played out in my family as well as many others. My second daughter is expecting their child in a few months and they are already planning on naming after grandfather/father should child be a boy!!

I am not Greek but married a Greek man. Our first born is named after my father-in-law because that is the Greek tradition. I believe traditions like this are great and should stay so kids know their culture. You can also give him a nickname if you don't want to call him Spyridon every day

Fathers should get to name their sons. (as long as it isn't something ridiculous like blue herring). Naming your son after his grandfather is not such a crazy notion.

He's given up the rights to a girl name, middle name and second born son. It's actually an awesome, traditional family name. He will treasure the uniqueness of it later in life.

I like the name Spyridon and as it's a family name all the better.

I agree with Dad, he has outlined many other compromises he is willing to make, I don't see the Mother willing to compromise anything. Spyridon sounds like a cool name to me although I've never heard it before.

I think I have a great reason why the son should be called Spyridon. As a Greek-American who is recently married and about to have my first child, we decided to name him Filippos after my father if it's a boy and Katarina after her mom if its a girl. The reason I agree with the father is because my name should have been Elias, after my grandfather, but my mother decided for the same reasons as this man's wife that I should have an American name. As soon as my teenage years hit, I hated my name and wanted to be called Elias, to the point where I almost had it legally changed, I didn't want to have a name with no significance and I wanted to honor my grandfather's legacy on this earth. This is a very important Grek tradition. BTW, I can't pronounce the wife's name lol
