I think it funny that she doesn't want to name her child something she can say when I couldn't pronounce her name without help!

Being that this is a long established tradition within the grooms family/heritage, the bride should have expected this - Did she really not ever ask him about the origin of his name?

Using it as a middle name is fine, but to use a name that he will most likely get teased for on the basis of "tradition" is in itself an archaic, unnecessary and ultimately selfish decision. Keep in mind that your son has to live in this day and age, and that children can be very cruel. Remember that using this name is something you're doing for yourself, not him. Parenting takes a little more compromise and empathy than that.

here's a novel idea. Since if its a girl she will be named after the material grandmother, how about compromising and naming the boy after his paternal grandfather? Spyridon is a strong, independent name. Michael while beautiful is a dime a dozen.

You should always name your first son after your Father.

I think the name Spyridon is beautiful and think that they should follow tradition.. I am of Russian/Polish/Ukrainian decent but was given an Irish first name. However my grandfather always called me either Katerina or Katrinka.

Children with unusual names fair worse in school and in business. This child will spend his life having to spell and pronounce his name to everyone. Believe me I know! Everyone calls me Elsie not " a lease". And forget my last name. that is butchered as well. Please don't saddle your child with this name.

There are bigger issues in a marriage guys! Its a unique name, a nod to his heritage. I like it. Compromise and just put Michael in the middle.

I am all for unique names. Michael if very nice name... Biblical even for Michael the ArcAngel.... but also very common! I think everyone knows at least a hundred Michaels! hahahaIn honor of her father tho... at least use Michael as a middle name. :)
