"Spyridon" is a very unique name, and I full-heartedly support it! This world has too many common boring names. And of course, being named after a relative is a wonderful thing, but usually lands you with one of those common boring name, so the fact that this time it won't is just more reason to give him that name. He'll thank you for it!

It's not a particularly graceful name - yes, it is outdated. However, since the girl will be named after the mother's mother it only seems fair that if it's a boy he will be named after his father's father. Plus, father-to-be has a point - there are A LOT of guys named "Michael" nowadays. Good luck!

Spyridon is an awesome name! Plus this is his only request for baby naming. I think this is a very small request and if the mom thinks its old fashioned, his middle name doesn't have to be! And if the child wants to, he could go by his middle name!

Nicholas has offered several compromises (naming rights of daughter and seond son) which Kseniya believes to be fair. If it's fair for her to name the first born daughter, why wouldn't it be fair for Nicholas to name the first born son? Also, you can call him Spyro! A popular videogame character in America.

I say either use Spyridon Michael or Michael Spyridon, That way you both have a name you want.My husband & I gave our son 2 middle names, the names we each had our hearts set on; & came up with a first name we both could agree on. We were/are both happy!

Could you use Spyridon as a middle name instead? Statistically speaking, the more 'out there' your name is, the less likely you will get hired when older. Maybe by the time your son is looking for a job hopefully things would have changed, but you never know. As his father, you could call him by his middle name.
I love the name Spyridon. It's cool. But I think they should compromise and name him Spyridon Michael.

Your wife is being totally unreasonable. Even if you don't get 100K signatures, I think the compromise of "Spyridon Michael" should be perfectly acceptable. You have conceded everything in this argument. She should be willing to accomodate your desire to name your (potential) son Spyridon.

When I first read the yahoo news article about your debate, I though that Spyridon was a made up silly name from a video game. However, when I understood the meaning and value it has a family name It became a beautiful name. I absolutely 100 percent agree with the father.
