The fact that it is a family name and common to your culture makes it a beautiful name. I also believe every man has the right to name his first born son. I must admit that in our curren culture, there seems to be a fad of naming a child something offbeat and unique just for the sake of doing so, I am not a fan of that, but if you were now would be the time to have such a unique name, as you would not be alone. Good luck. But know, whatever you call him will not change that he means to you or the world. Momma, surely you will come up with a nick name :)

The best gift a parent can give a child is a unique name. It is the very first gift after birth that a parent gives and it is the one gift that will truly stay with a child for their absolute entire life. Michael is just an ordinary dude I've met a million times. I've never met a Spyridon, but he sounds like someone I'd like to know! As someone with an uncommon name, I strongly vote for Spyridon!

This is common practice in the Greek comminity. Spyridon is a strong name, whcih is what you want for a child.

Michael is a name that is EVERYWHERE. Your child will end up being Michael #4 in class and in working environments. Why not give him something unique to start off his life? Something that has heritage and culture behind it. If you need Michael to be a part of his name, have it be his middle name. But for the love of the 15 Michael's and Mikes that I work with... name him something else.

Awesome name, unique and if they do tease the little guy his nick name would be Spiderman - seriously NO drawback at all. But more importantly, we should always be proud of our heritage especially our namesake.
