When I first heard about this story I couldn't wait to go home and tell me son about it. I am Greek but my husband is not. We named our first son Timothy after his deceased dad. When we found out that our second child would be a boy I really wanted to honor my father as well. What is ironic here is that we named our boy Michael Spyridon. I wish you both all the best.

How about S. Michael Soukeras i.e. Spyridon Michael Soukeras, so that when the kid grows up he can choose to be whatever HE wants to be, and where he does not even have to only choose one. If you dont get 100,000 how about Michael Spyridon Soukeras? Good Luck

Nicholas is 100% right. If you marry a Greek it is with the complete understanding that you name the first born son after the Paternal Grandfather. No exceptions. It s a firmly practiced tradition, regardless of preference.

I understand your desire to continue a family tradition, however Spyridon may not be the best name for a boy. I can already think of a few kicknames and jokes bullies would use in schools. It would also make finding a job more difficult because employers tend to chose candidates with more common names. Maybe using it as a middle name could be a middle ground.

As someone who has a 4th in the family, I completely appreciate the desire to continue tradition! However, don't forget that each of you has the "godly right" to want to honor your own family, when it comes to naming your child. That said, I have a very unique name, that has been butchered all of my life; I LOVE IT and wouldn't change it for anything! I think Spyridon or Michael Spyridon are each wonderful names your child will love and be proud of.
Finally, though I have a strong reaction/opinion to this petition, at the end of the day, he is not my child... think of one another and your child, and figure this one out between the two of you.

What a wonderful name - whether its used as the first or middle name - powerful, strong and definitely memorable! And who knows - the kid may use a nickname most of his life and no one will even know what a beautiful name he has. I say go for it - Spyridon Michael or Michael Spyridon - just no more fighting about it. :)

if the coiple has a girl,they agree to the name Elena in honor of Kseniya’s mother, then if its a boy then the boy should be named after Nicolas's father

If anything, this "21st century" needs more names that mean something to the family. My middle son has my maiden name as his first name, as I'm the eldest of 3girls and have no brothers to carry the name on. My eldest and youngest children have ancient names, so that they are NOT just another Tom,Dick, or Harry..

Amazing, traditional name. He'll thank you later. My year-old twins (boy and girl) are Vyacheslav "Slava" and Stephanie, reflecting my Russian heritage. The name has been carried by great men and it's grown on everyone I know, now they love it! And my eldest son is Corey Wojtek, my Polish heritage. It's looking like, with age, Wojtek is winning out. Blessings to baby Spyridon (or Elena)!
