I think it's a strong, unique, meaningful name and your wife should respect that because you feel so strongly about it. He will HATE being called such a generic name as Michael, and mom will have to explain that to him as he gets older. Stay strong, dad!

I had a similar problem when I was pregnant with my daughter. My husband wanted Felicia ( yuk ) and I wanted Christina. Keep in mind, HE got to name the first baby!
We argued all the way up to DELIVERY! Think about that ladies....contraction coming: Him: Felicia Me: Christina. Finally, our baby was born! She was so small and petite. With tears in my eyes, I looked up at him and said " Tina?" and that's what she was named.
Don`t sweat it! Although, I like Michael Spyridon, as the others above me has said.

i totally agree with donna casas also agree with mijsa van den abeelen nfirst name should be the mother choice middle name the fathers choice she has to carry the baby 9 months so the mother should have first pick on baby names.

I had a similar issue with my son. His father is greek (Constantine) and my father-in-law's name was Adonis. I thought that, albeit an elegant name, was a bit too much for my taste. So my husband and I agreed on Nicolas Adonis. In retrospect, my son is gorgeous (of course I think so), and would have certainly lived up to being an "Adonis"..but more than that, I think these traditions are important to pass down. What an awesome name "Spyridon!" I hope you have a boy! How about a compromise: Spyridon Michael?

Naming a 1st born after their grandparent is an honor & a way to keep the family legacy & heritage going. Go for it - there's always a chance for nicknames to be created, etc.

No offense against the name Michael. My brother's name is Michael, and he is very proud of it. Our parents liked it after hearing it in a John Wayne movie. But yes, it is VERY common. I myself wish that my parents would have been a bit more imaginative when it came to my name. *sigh* So, I guess I'm living vicariously through this baby.
