If he can't use his father's name, she shouldn't be able to use her father's. Find a name you both can agree on.

My selection is Michael. Michael is one of the seven archangels in Hebrew tradition and the only one identified as an archangel in the Bible. In the Book of Revelation in the New Testament he is portrayed as the leader of heaven's armies, and thus is considered the patron saint of soldiers.

Being of Greek heritage a boy should absolutely be named for his father's father. Female first borns after the mother's mother. This should not even be an issue.

Spyridon Hristos Soukeras is a melodious name, beautiful, very Greek, and flows on the tongue. The name Michael, although beautiful, does not fit nearly as well. There are also many nicknames that can be made from Spyridon. It is also a very strong name to give a boy. I love it! Although I like my given name, Sheila, I am moving to change it to Omphale, which is Greek and means Navel (where the Greeks believe life begins (umbilical navel) :) Good luck Nicholas.

I believe first names should be of the same nationality as last names. Therefore the baby should be named Spyridon. My last name is Anglo-Saxon, so all my children have Anglo-Saxon names. It just makes sense.

I think that if tradition is to name a first born son after a grandfather, go with both grandfathers names. Michael Spyridon Soukeras, that we he is named after both sides of the family...

I could relate with this couple 100% since I too am Greek American. Spyridon is actually a nice name, but one that's hard to pronounce if you are not well versed in Classic Greek. As Greek tradition goes, the first born usually will be named after the fathers side parents. Spyridon is long for Spiros. I don't think anyone would have trouble pronouncing Spiro. ;-)
