Coming from a American, with my descent being HALF Greek and HALF Italian, IT WAS AN HONOR TO BE NAMED AFTER MY PAPOU. The fact that this woman does not want to be proud of her husbands heritage is a complete travesty and she should be ASHAMED of herself. But then again, she may be jealous because she is not Greek herself, and everyone knows what an honor it is to call yourself Greek.

I like the idea of a traditional name with two questions; what would be the 'short' version and what would be the middle name? The name has to flow. Remember, you will be yelling that full name for the rest of your lives.

It's a terrible name...he'll spend his whole life telling people how to pronounce his name or spelling it on the phone...and what about going for a job interview? Will he even get called in if the future boss is going to have to feel like an idiot for not knowing how to say his name? A child's name is not a joke...it's life-long and can make the difference in the child's future and how they are perceived by everyone.

The first boy is named after the paternal grandfather in Greek tradition. The 2nd boy can be Michael. Spyridon can be called Spiro or Don, I know a Dan even. It's a beautiful name.

I hope the language in this petition is sarcasm. Your child's heritage is just his/her mother's as yours. That said, carrying on tradition is a great thing to do. Since the name would be misprounced by people outisde the Greek community, how about Spyridon as the middle name? And since Michael is really common, pick a different option for the first name. Or go with Mikhail, instead. Like the great Russian ballet dance Baryshnikov. I think Misha is his nickname as well.Remember that your child has to live with this name and he/she won't always be in their own little neighborhood. In the end,kids always hat what you name them, anyway. You can't win.
