Is anyone else bothered by the fact that if it's a girl he doesn't care and is willing to relinquish the rights to name the baby? So it's worth the fight to honor the men in your life but not the women? It's not the name that's archaic it's his (albeit unintentional) gender inequality views.

Everyone has opinions about names - its like color each person has their own color pallete. However, heritage and family are important. Don't lose this name to the ages because you are afraid it is different.

When I was pregnant with my first born 35 years ago, I was told that it was my husband's family's custom to name the first born son after the paternal grandfather. I was not too thrilled at the time about being forced to name a child something I did not want. We named him after his father and his middle name was after my father. It ended up being the best decision ever. Not too many people are named after both of their grandparents, who were both wonderful men!!!

Why name a child a name that he will have to tell everyone how to pronounce, spell every time he has to make a business phone call, and explain to everyone for his whole life. The name is ridiculous...I pray the child is a girl so the fight can end.

Given the name Cara Babette at birth, I HATED it in school. Until I reached my teens and every Karen, Michelle, Kelli had to go by first name and middle initial because there were at least two or three in every class. As an adult, I fully embrace my beautiful, unique name. Yes, people pronoounce it wrong. I gently correct them, because it's something I'm used to. That doesn't cause me emotional pain or embarrass me. I am so glad I grew up a unique name. Long live Sryridon! If you must make it more palatable for the American public, call him Ridon. My guess is he'll haveat least two Ryder's in his class.
