I think in this day and age an unusual name sets your child apart for the better, but because of this you could also give them a nickname to go by. Come on mom, comprimise! Let dad have the first and you get the middle name.
It sounds like a reasonable request especially considering the father has no issue with the middle name being Michael.

Mrs. Soukeras, by denying your husband the opportunity to name his first born son, you are effectively emasculating him in front of his son before the boy is even born. It would be a shame his father would carry every time he was forced to call his boy "Michael". Your argument against "Spyridon" is laughable. Difficult to pronounce? Really "KSENIYA"? I imagine you would easily be able to find a way around it, just as many Americans have done for your first name. For as much as many little girls fantasize over their dream wedding, little boys fantasize over sharing the pride of their familial heritage with a first born son. Don't take this from him Mrs. Soukeras, there can never be a second first born son.

if the kid doesn't like it later he can do what normal kids have always done and be called by his middle name. my mother and my aunt both went by their middle names because they didn't like their first names. Even if he doesn't like the name he'll appreciate the ties to his heritage and a relative that is that important to his father.

For most men, it's a huge honor in naming their first born, now add all of the sentimental, religious, and family history behind his reasons for wanting the name Spyridon, which is actually a great name! If he were my husband, I would not hesitate to team up with him in naming our first born whatever he would wish, even if it were "Shreck"
