First - the first lesson for becoming a parent is to do what is best for your child, and not yourself. Name the kid a name that he understands and will not make him feel different UNLESS he chooses to be different, so make his middle name Spyridon, Second- you already have your wife and child take your last name, don't be greedy as though it is all about you, Three, your argument is specious to say the least.

Name the boy Michael Spyridon. The father and whoever else in the family can call him Spyridon, but the mother and the outside world can use his first name Michael. Michael will be a much easier name for him to carry outside the Greek community, so he won't have to correct the spelling or pronounciation. The kid can legally change his first name to Spyridon when he's of age or just tell folks even as a child that his name is Spyridon if that's what he prefers.

Being American, and understanding tradition, I think you should go with Spyridon. Maybe make the middle name Michael. I like to embrace diversity and the name is different in America, however, its traditional and means something to the family and Michael is a VERY common name. Don't let the times change us, who cares if it is the 21st century, change the times and take pride in the diversity of the name compared to what else is out there. As an American, I like the name Spyridon Michael Soukeras....

While I like the name Spyridon, I don't think there is any godly right involved. I think the mom should have final veto rights.

Spyridon is a way more interesting name than Michael. If you want this kid to be admired by all his peers for having the coolest name, go with Spyridon!

Your baby is already getting your grandfather's LAST NAME! Why should he get both first and last names? Or, give your baby your wife's maiden name as his last name if you choose Spyridon for the first name. Let's be fair!
