I suggest Spyridon as a first-born-son name if it is family's tradition.Michael could be the secong name or name of your second child :)

Dear couple,
It is not a good way to start with arguments when having a baby.
Firstly, be thankful that you can have one.
Secondly, the fact; all genetic material is from the female.
Thirdly, the only contribution from the male is the sperm.
Whether they like it or not... (ps The sperm decides the sex of a baby as well.. )
Forth and last fact... You married a Greek!!!
Taking the above into account....
It is customary (for Greeks) that the first born child takes the name from the father's side. It is also customary that the first born SON, if the first born male of a family, ALSO takes the name from the father's side..
My first born was a daughter and took her name from my husband's side (his mother).
My second born was a son and as my husband is a first born son to his family and the child carries on the surname from the grandparent then we had to name him after my husband's side again...!!! (his father).
I was in total disagreement with BOTH choices!!!!
BUT suddenly it came to me.. Why argue? Genetically, these kids are all mine! Whether he likesit or not. Motherhood is a privilege. Life is too short to worry about issues like that. Let your husband have his "take" in a miracle that at the end of day it is the only thing that he can really pass down the family tree. The legacy of his family and the family name. You (the wife) is creating this miracle and motherhood is something that no name choice can take away. As a mother you have so much power that can not concive as yet. You are both living in a country that is not your native. Excuses of things like "can not pronounce the name" are shallow the least. We live in a new country called "the world" and even though it is really important to keep our identity you have to look at the bigger picture. For some that is by name, for others by language, for others by religion and others the way they look. So lighten up, give the child a name from the father's side as it is your first born and if life

Spiro is a great name! Perhaps if you agree to the name your husband can take the family to Corfu, where St. Spyridon is the patron saint.

It's not only a family name but I love how uncommon it is. It'll be nicer than seeing five Michael's in one classroom.

i am 62 years old and have always gone by my middle name from the day i was born. however, my first name had to be used in college and with military matters (i am the army wife of a 24 and a half year soldier). Maybe this could be a satisfactory compromise. the child called by the middle name, the adult by his first name. kind of like growing into this wonderful family name while navigating through childhood a little easier with a name more able to blend in.

I LOVE the name Spyridon! Sounds like a strong, spirited name that commands presence. Michael is also a beautiful name. I changed my name when I married from Kalakaylo to Murray, and I still have a pang of longing for my cool name back! I like the idea of Spyridon Michael, then as he gets older let him choose how his peers address him. I know plenty of people who have decided to use thier middle name as thier first.

Spyridon Soukeras is a badass name!! Why don’t you compromise & name the child Spyridon Michael Soukeras??
