Unique name and obviously has meaning. Be fair. Let him have his name. It can't be just about the names of the mothers side.

The best argument I read was that Americans should stop forcing everyone to take boring Anglo Saxon names. I won't be able to take it if every other dude I meet is named Michael or John or Joe etc

I don't know whether the child will ecounter problems with the name in the future, but I personally like the name. I always thought the more "exotic" names were more intriguing. As far as saying it is unsuitaable because it is the twenty first century, this time seems to be one of social change and acceptance. It would be far from unsuitable in my opinion.

PLEASE don't name him that! He will be harassed his whole life! It's an awful name! The kids will call him "Spy" and he WILL hate it!
I agree that the name Michael Spyridon could be an acceptable compromise. That way you honor family but he doesn't have to live with a weird name that no one can pronounce.

I love the name Spyridon! It's very unique and I think it's a great homage to his Greek heritage. And hey, he can be nicknamed Spyro (for anyone who doesn't understand the reference, it's a dragon from a videogame, haha). I fully support this name!

Your marriage is important too. Issues that leave scars are permanent. Why not pick another first name you can both agree on, and add Spyridon and Michael as middle names, if it's a boy, so that everyone's choices are included. You can do the same with female names as well.

This child will already be honoring the paternal side of the family by carrying the LAST (Sur) name of the family! Why not compromise and use BOTH names and refer to the child by the name easier for the peers of the child to pronounce?

I think its a rather pretty name, and as a woman, I think its best to be more open. Its good to make an effort to embrace different cultures and names as well as try to pronounce them (yes it takes work, but so does everything else, so don't be lazy).

The tradition of naming a son after the grandfather is great. Let him have the first name of Spyridon... and then give him a more common middle name which he can use when he is older if he wants to. That is not unusual. Good luck!
