As someone with an unusual first name, I am voting for Spyridon, with Michael as the middle name, that way the child can make a choice when he gets older. As a child, I hated my unusual name, but as an adult, I love being different. However, I do think that this husband should not have publicly taken his wife to task about this. Lowly thing to do to someone you supposedly care about.

i think you should compromise and not use either fathers name as the first name. make it his middle name instead. i know of at least 3 people in our family that have these family names and they hate them. in their cases they go by their middle names unless they are signing legal documents.

i think the name is wonderful. Will he be called by his 1st name or could he be called by his middle? My oldest is part filopino and we named him after both his father and grandfather..Vicente, but we used one of his middle names Demetri. He's used both in school of his choosing.

As someone with a historically Greek name, and I'm not even Greek, I support Nicholas especially since Spyridon is not a made-up name but the real name of the grandfather.
