I like the idea of following the tradition. Name the child after his grandfather; call him Michael (or a nickname) if you prefer, or make Michael his middle name.

It's an awesome name. I love Michael but literally know 30 of them. Also, I believe in preserving heritage and what a wonderful way to honor the family. I hope she gives in!

It's a awesome family name. Plus, as I understand it, you both have agreed to name the baby after your wife's mother if it's a girl. It's only fair one of each spouse's parents is represented. AND, no offense to your wife's father, but Michael- while beautiful- is so common, it's boring.

I think the baby would be blessed with either name and if chose to change its name later than it would be their choice. Both parents should make a compromise.

i believe that boys should be named from the fathers side and girls from the mothers side.
