I have a unique last name and love it. I don't see why this man should have to name his child anything ordinary - it is his choice.

When I first read the name "Spyridon" I immediately thought, "What kind of name is THAT?!", however, after reading about the family's history, & the name in Greek tradition I quickly changed my tune. I think it's very fitting for a firstborn son and who is to say that if God blesses you with a 2nd son, he couldn't be named "Michael"? Congratulations to you both and may this little disagreement be the worst your marriage will have to overcome!

I think that "Michael Spyridon" actually sounds nice. But at the end of the day, it doesn't matter what friends, strangers or family think. It's the right of the parents. Hopefully they can get this sorted out.

I regret not naming my #2 son (Italian tradition, name second son after maternal Dad's first name) Ignazio for my father. We could have just called him by his middle name if it was uncomfortable at school!

I support the father in his quest to name his son after his father. Besides passing on family heritage it is a very cool name.

I am also greek and in our Family I share the same name as my mother and my daughter and my great aunt who was the first of our family born in this country. It is our way of honoring our heritage and keeping the family names in the family. My sons are named after their grandfathers and my thrid son was named after his great grandfather. I also think the first son should be named by the Father as a way of including him and allowing him to continue his line if he wishes for a Junior. And believe me with a name like Bessie, I have heard all the cow jokes and was teased but I think it made me really like my name more because it was different and set me apart. Good Luck Sir!

You go daddy! Mom will have a more intimate bond with the baby and this is a great way to help dad have a bond with the baby too! Mom can always make his middle name Michael!!
