I wasn't sure how I felt about this petition at first... It was a struggle between my love of traditional naming practices and/or unusual names, and my "feminist" feelings as well. In the end, the name won out. ;)

I think it's a great name. You have been fair and agreed to let her name the cild if it is a girl, so it is only fair she should allow you to name the child if it's a boy. I hope you achieve your goal!

I named my first born son after my father. We've got bloodlines to consider here. I've never heard that name and I think it's awesome!

i think if they can't even find a compromise without making a petition, they should get into marital therapy asap. their disagreements will only become more difficult after they become parents. pick your battles carefully!

Spyridon is a fine name,you could always use Michael as a middle name

I think "Spyridon" is a lovely historical name, and one that is not used to death like "Michael". I could easily forget meeting a "Michael", but never a "Spyridon"! I might be a little biased towards under-used names though... I have an "Iman" and an "Yvette" :)

I would rather be known as a Spyridon than a Michael. Make your child unique. Middle name: Michael.

I think the name Spyridon Michael would be a handsome name for the young man. My son is named after my grandfather. Keeping with traditions is important. And family names are often lost in todays society. Too many people with Brian and david etc. Never know Spyridon may grow up to be President of the United States and it will be a name that everyone will remember. BTW he can always go by initials later in life. Nicholas my vote is for you.

It is a Greek tradition to name children after grandparents. Many modern parents are now going back to traditional ethnic names - its trendy. Also, you say you can't pronounce Spyridon, yet your name is "Kseniya"? To compromise, how about picking a neutral first name and using Spyridon for the middle name? That's how I named both my sons.

I am one from old school. I believe a son should be named after his father, even if only a part of the name is included. I am also a proud southerner who believes that a nickname is also a way to go if you do not wish to use the child's given name for whatever reason. You can have the best of both.

I think all points your wife made are valid unless you find a way to carry the children. Once you can do that then you hold the trump card. ;) Honestly Michael sounds better with your last name. I will say I agree with you on the point that if You name your son Michael then the middle name should honor your father... that way your son's name honors both grandfather's and not just one. Have fun.. and remember to enjoy this pregnancy, because it goes way to fast.
