it is an outdated name, and children will rag on him, I know because I work with children. a little girl was named gertrude and the kids were merciless, she now has to be homeschooled. Kids are ruthless. dont give them any cause to pick on the kid

I agree with your points and worry for the marriage if he's actually serious in this petition. As far as naming the child...if they both cannot agree on first name, they should choose a neutral third. Weren't Ancient Greeks known for their logic skills? I guess the 'proud' linage was diluted when it comes to modern day Greeks!

Im sorry but ive never heard of gertrude. Spiro is a very common name in the Northeast . Kids are not ruthless and merciless, they are uneducated and part of bad parenting. If you teach your kid to very sensitive you have bigger issues in life than there names being made fun of.

If it doesn't matter who carried the child, then it doesn't matter who carries the surname. He can get his choice for first name "Spirydon" and the child can take HER surname. Even steven!

The American name pool is awful just like terming America as a "melting pot" is awful. You lose your culture and what makes you unique in the big "American Dream". melting until you lose your originality in the big flavor.

My son (14) is named Spyridon-Spiro for short. He is very popular and his peers love it. Never a problem.

And if she hadn't agreed, what would you have done? Harassed her into complying? Brought strangers into the matter? Tried to raise 100,000 signatures from people who shouldn't have a say in the first place? Divorced her? It just so happened your spouse probably didn't care. Well, this mother cares. When's the last time you saw somebody auctioning their child's name? What does this look like to you?

They do not know the sex of the child yet, he has already agreed to honor her family and a girl will be named after her side and all other children are her choice except for the firstborn which he wants to follow in his family tradition. I think this is more than fair.

read the 'points' on this petition. The lady of the house has all other naming rights (if its a girl it's named after mom's mother, mom gets to pick middle name of the son, etc). I think it's a beautiful tradition to name the first boy after his dad's father. and Spyridon is such a unique cool name! The boy would be destined to grow up with a strong sense of self!
