I think you should use both your father's and her father's name to form the name of the child.

You two should not have kids if you can't decide on a name. You just want your stupid 15 minutes of fame. Losers.

seriously? You want to saddle your son with a moniker that will get his ass kicked every day? Do you have a clue how cruel kids can be? Besides, he'll have your last name. Your wife is doing all the work so she deserves to select his first name and you need to be man enough to like it! Michael is a beautiful, noble name.

What's wrong with giving this kid two middle names? Safe to assume this child will have your last name and you really should respect your wife's heritage by at least giving "ochestvo" which is really you claiming this child as your own. Think about how this kid Whois have to get through school with this name. This is not just about your heritage this child also has his moms heritage. I am a Belorussian girl living in US Michael Nicholas Spyridon Soukeras

I am all on his side! Being Greek it is not only the tradition but simply the way of life. My mother was named in this fashion to an American mother and Greek immigrant for a father. It is NOT a matter of his father being more important than hers or some egotistical thing. It is about not loosing what tradition we have. It is as old as time. My grandfather got it my entire maternal Greek family line has it (myself included) and I thank my mother everyday for fighting for the tradition as I get to carry my family with me always! Plus it is a badass name! He's only asking that tradition be followed. Let him!

At first I was thinking no way should that be the name of the child but after reading of the tradition of being named after paternal grandfathers the dad has a strong case. How about the name Spyridon Micheal and he can go by Micheal and still keep the naming tradition.

Perhaps, you could combine the two names if your wife is very opposed to Spyridon. Otherwise, I think it's a very interesting name. I suppose his nickname could be "Spiro".
