spyridon is a great name. i do think that some kids may be a little cruel about it i still think it would work. how many Michaels will be in his class because i can tell u my kindergartener has 3 in her class and about 28 total in her school

We need to keep traditions alive. The boy (if it is a boy) can determine what he wants to be called later in life. I think its a great name and will allow him to connect with his past.

It isn't my favorite name. However, herritage and traditions deserve to be honored. I believe the child will love that his name has a purpose rather than just a name like every other kid in class. I think the mom is bias bc people had trouble pronouncing her name. To her, as one that had to live my life with a common first name and living listening for my last initial, trust me...if your son is going to be one to complain about his name, naming him Michael isn't going to avoid his complaints. It is ultimately your choices and either way he will be the most adorable being to ever exist in your life! Good luck and blessings to you and your family!!

Since my name is also Spyridon and I was named after my grandfather as well I think I have a something to add in this matter. First of all the name Spyridon comes from the Greek words Pyr (the name for fire) and the word Spondi ( the act of pouring some wine over the altar). Together they mean sacrifice. Spyridon's usually are being called Spiros that comes from the latim spero which means hope. Having said that the argument of your wife ""Spyridon" is archaic, base, bereft of elegance and unsuitable for a child living in 21st century America" is very correct in my opinion.

as a Michael myself, i cant let another Michael be brought into this world. there is already an overpopulation of Michaels in the world.
