Aside from all the reasoning, I like Spyridon MUCH better. Just because it's cool! My husband and first son are both named Michael...along with half of the male population in the U.S. Personally, I hate that. The name is nice, but too common. So, for our second son we went with something far less common. So glad we did.

The name Spyridon is beautiful and the baby will be proud to embrace his Greek heritage! Michael is too common!
You could always compromise and name him Spyridon Michael or Michael Spyridon

Go for Spyridon! Greek Last name, greek first name. I understand wife wants to use her father's name, but Spyridon would go well with the boy's Greek last name.

I think the father to be is reasonabley correct. I am American but have chosen to name my first (he's a boy) now 42 after his great grandfather on my then husband's side of the family. I definitely beleive in following tradition. It makes no difference the ethnic back ground to me, I beleive in carrying on traditional names at anytime.

Spyridon is much more unique and will be more remembered than Michael. Out of my long-term relationships 2-5 were michael
