The name is a very un-used name, never heard of it, that would mean it is very unique.. Personally I like it my self specially is it's his father's name. Most men want that specially is their father has passed and wants that name in history and wants to hold on to it also. I would want the same for my child, names after my father if it was because he just wanted the name ok, but this is his fathers name he wants it to keep going and I am for that all the way even if it is a name never really used before its a unique name and I'm am sure he will love his daddy for it. Instead of giving him a name most men have already which is Michael, so I think the wife should just be for him that name means something and I am proud of men whom do things like this because it's not just the womens choice you both made that baby together you both should agree on one name put pro's and con's of each name and go from their. But men don't be afraid to do something like this man he is standing up for what he wants and most men don't most men just give in and just let the women pick be fair ladies we are the one carring and birthing but if it wasn't for our men no women would know how it is to have a child, to name a child, to get such a gift from god that means the world to us let the men be in on the name picking. I love you for doing this but if it were me I would be working it out and do just as I said before their should be no reason why you guys can't work this out together it's never going to work if you guys have different arguments and one goes on the internet to get a petition started because you guys can't agree. Lady Michael is a very used name it's your first born have it a unique name not a name that damn near every man has already make him different because every child of our is special and deserves to carry his grandfathers name and to carry on his name, when your son grows up and understands where his name come from he will appreciate that so much, and just the fact tha

In my humble opinion, I think a good compromise would be "Michael Spyridon". I personally would choose just Michael as Spyridon could be prone to bullying situations when the child starts school; however, in the end is solely the parents decision. Also Dad-to-be, remember that he will already have your last name so you might want to give Mom-to-be an opportunity as well. Good luck to you and many blessings to your family.

My wife and I faced the identical issue. We settled on a third, neutral name. Now both sides of the family feel slighted. It's perfect. But you should totally go with Spyridon.

It's an honor and tradition to name your child(ren) after their grandparents. I am not Greek but married Greek and named my first daughter after my mother in law. My thinking was that the child will be named with a meaning and story, versus just naming your child any name because you think it's "pretty". Plus, traditions are becoming extinct in Ameirca, which is more reason to support them and keep them going. It's an honor to be able to have a traceable lineage.

It would be ungodly to name a child any name unless you and your wife are both in agreement on it. The name is too much like spider and I predict his friends will be calling him "spidy" which could lead to many jokes at school thus I'm not a big fan of the name so I'm on her side with this.

I know too many Michael's and not enough Spyirodn's. Here's hoping your marriage continues to be a democracy!

There is something to be said for passing on family names, and particularly one's culture/ethnicity.

i think there is nothing wrong with the name. These days people see all sorts of ethnic names. Kids in particular think nothing of it. Use Spyridon Michael. I will say that the TONE of your wording is horrible. Referring to some fictional 'right' to the name is nonsense. If these two of you can't come to an adult decision, please put the kid up for adoption to parents who know what is important. I don't expect that you'll be married by the time he goes to school.

Yes, Spyridon (Spiros for short and easy). I am a Petros, also after my grandfather.

THE FIRST BORN SON SHOULD ALWAYS BE NAMED AFTER THE DAD OR THE DAD'S DAD JUST MY OPINION OR AT LEAST MAKE HIS MIDDLE NAME AFTER 1 OF THE 2.

Unique name, but passing down a family name will prove well-worth it down the lineage. It's an honor to have a name passed down. My brother is named after my father, and I plan on including my fathers name for my first born son. Just because its not the "norm" in America, doesn't necessarily mean its absurd. People name their children all sorts of different names - look at celebrities. "Apple" or "Birdie" - given that this name has Greek orgin Spyridon isn't that bad!

Name the baby Michael Spyridon Soukeras or visi versa. Both parents want to use their fathers name so use both. Write first and second on a paper and which ever parent draws first then their name is first.

I am not of Greek ancestry but I like the name very much. It's not a name you hear everyday (like Michael) and it has history and meaning to your family. Why not compromise and name the child both: Spyridon Michael Soukeras. A person should have a name with meaning and character and individuality, not one they share with 4 other kids in class. No one wants to be called "Michael S." by all of their friends and teachers.

Why not go with Spyridon Michal to honor both grandfathers and then when older the boy can use which ever one he wants in his professional life?

Children need a name other people as well as his mother can pronounce. Kids can be harsh on each other and with a first name like Spyridon he doesn't stand a chance. I agree with the wife and the name Michael Spyridon Soukeras is a good compromise.
