As you can see by portions of my name I am no strager to strange names. Spyridon it is.The child will eventually love the history of the name and in the meantime he canget his teachers and friends to call him by his middle name if heso desires.

How about a compromise? Name him Spyridon but let your wife choose his middle name. Then call him by his middle name so there is no confusion with his grandfather and he won'y get teased by children unfamiliar with Greek names.

he will not fit in with his greek heritage if you don't let the name be passed down from the grandfather. I'm Irish and I know how important it is in Greek culture

Spyridon Michael sounds great and better than Michael Spyridon. If it's a boy and he doesn't like Spyridon he can go by Mike. Mark my words that when he gets to college, if he is going by Mike, he will tell folks his name is Spyridon. It sets him apart and every college kids is trying to be both unique and find themselves. We had decided on Wyatt if our 2nd son was born with brown eyes and Niall of he was born with blue eyes. His name is Niall. Another note, we used my wife's maiden name for both of our boys middle names.

SPYRIDON! keep with the family tradtion! you can always use Michael as a middle name and call him by it as a nick name if you prefer. My former husbands family they all have a version of Steven for the first born male or female. We kept the tradion out of respect for the family but call my son by his middle name instead. Steven was too common. They are both nice names but Spyridon is far more unique and it is in good taste to keep with the family tradtion. Clearly it means a great deal to the father.

Father's choice all the way on this one only. His argument is more cogent. & amusing. & the name is so much better. Spyridon! Spir-ry-don. Beautiful! From a feminist to Mrs. Soukeras: please honour your beautiful husband with this gift! Sincerely, Aisling (unusual names are a marvelous gift to a child!)

I don't truck with names that are different just to be unique, e.g. Moxie Crimefighter, but this is a unique, traditional name with meaning. And I love the shortened Spiro!
