Spyridon...... I to had to deal with a similair family issue 7 years ago. I had planned to name my first born son Journey James since I was 12y's. After I met my husband he told me that everyone in his family had given the first born son the middle name of the paternal grandpa. In my case it was Thomas which is a good name. It did ruin my plan to have the middle name James after my grandpa/role model/fath figure. But my husband just said lets name him James Thomas. At first I was no to happy, but seeing my lil boy I knew it was perfect. I am happy I did it....... now I have 2 more boys and #2 got my dads name Timothy as his middle name and his first name is from a family name on both sides of the family. #3 got the first and middle name of my mother in laws father. Family names are so special!

Spyridon is a lovely name and should be honored as a family name. Michael is boring and very common. Why not make his middle name Michael and call him by his middle name if you can't come up with a happy nickname.

I think Michael is a whole lot easier than Spyridon, I would really feel sorry for a child growing up in the United States to have to go through life with a name like that.

Spyridon Michael. The kid has a choice later, and the father is happy now! Sounds like a good compromise to me. What a fun "problem" to have. Bless you all!

Michael definitely. I appreciate the family tradition value of Spyridon, but he will have to correct the spelling and pronounciation for the rest of his life. For his sanity, no. Plus, I'd hire a MIchael over a Spyridon any day.

I think Michael Spyridon Souleras is perfect! Then you can call him by both names, whichever suits the occasion.

Dear Nicholas, you are a jerk to dismiss your wife's opinion about naming HER (as well as your) baby and to make such a private matter public... She is not a baby producing machine and her opinion should count (I hope you guys are a real family and not a housemaid-with-sex-services-type of relationship). Second, to publicly mock the names from her home country is rude, racist, and disrespectful to her culture. Just think how you'd feel if she made jokes about Greek names. By the way, the reason she does not like Spyridon is because it used to be popular in Russian peasantry in the previous centuries, so she has negative associations with it. Most of all, it should have been decided between you two, and should not have been made a matter of public discussion. Best wishes to your wife!

I love the name, much more than Michael (no offense to the Mom). It is a meaningful, unique name and I think. that makes it even more revenant for our times than the overused generic names!

Don't break tradition, some things are nice to pass down to kids. Just make sure you have at least 3 so Michael gets a chance :)

I'm all for odd names and family names I say go for the greek name. All my kids have Czech first names and odd Hebrew middle names. This way not many kids will have there name.
