I have a son, Spyridon. It's a great name. We never shortened it, however, to Spiro. Thank goodness.

Unique is better. You can call him Spy for short which is cool and he can go by the middle name of Michael if he needs to later.

I think this is a beautiful tradition to continue. The baby's name should be Spyridon Nicholas.

Micheal is not a name with "elegance" it is the most boring and generic name out there. Name your child something unique.

Before reading the explanation, I must admit that I sided with the mother that Spyridon was archaic. After reading about your tradition I think Spyridon Nicholas should be considered for the baby's name. If, in the future, Spyridon should potentially hold him back in life, he could go by Nicholas. I understand the mother's desire to name the baby after her father as well, however Michael is very commonplace. Compromise is key. Is Spyridon Nicholas is too much, perhaps Michael as a middle name to honor both fathers. Or the maternal grandfather's middle name for the baby's middle name. Or, Spyridon could be the baby's middle name. I know that's not ideal but it might be worth the compromise. Good luck!

I think it's a cool strong name, and even more special that it is in honor of a relative.

Sometimes, when going to school, the friends might give the child a nick name such as Spy. But if he will be at school only with Greek children maybe not. I say give him Spyridon. I would say no to Michael only because my exhusband his name is Michael
