I love the name Spyridon, and since it actually meant something to your husband, I suggest you go with the name. He also said you can have his middle name as Micheal, this is win-win for everyone. Wish you a safe delivery.

I believe your husband's tradition should be honored and you should support him in his beliefs. I honored my husband's choice, and I've never regretted it. Family everything. Spyridon is my choice!

How about you name your son Spyridon Michael Soukeras? That way both of you can call him by what you prefer, since they'll both be part of his name.

I'm a 1st generation Italian American. My parents decided to give me a more American name, I did the same with my child, sadly I wish they hadn't and that I had not. Our children lose traditions this way, esp if it is a family name. I feel you should name him Spyridon if just to keep the name in your family, as well as the traditions of your country. To often these are changed because we marry or have children with people of different beliefs and traditions; unless you plan on leaving all traditions from both sides behind you, in which case you should name it a more modern name (of husbands choice). But with that said Shakespeare did speak of this "that which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet." If it would case friction in the marriage over time as the child grows up and asks why you chose that name...I would let the small stuff go and find a name that both of you agree on. Just try to remember, naming a child a nontraditional name will make them do the same, can both of you live with that? (Just a thought: my best friend is named Despina, her mother was German and father Greek; the middle name was then made a combination of both parents. She goes by her middle name but loves her first!)
