My grandchild (19) was arrested in California for tossing a skateboard at someone who had pushed her off it and made her fall to the ground. She called me after learning that she could not get through on her mother's cell phone. This was after her own cell had been confiscated (would have been a free call). I accepted the call coming in as a "collect" call. The first call cut off before I could learn who it was and what it was. The next call, my grandchild reached me, panicked, and I stayed on the phone for 42 minutes to offer support and comfort. When my AT&T bill arrived, I had a charge from ILD (International Long Distance, which turns out to be Global Tel*Link Corp. for $38. This is the most underhanded way of doing business I've encountered. AT&T informed me that it was just an outside company billing through them. When the heck did all this get approved. I feel so sorry for the families of inmates trying to communicate through this rip-off company. Stop the madness in our government. Who the heck has a relative working for GTL who got them this contract? Just sayin'.
