WE WANT THE GRADES WE EARNED!

The UBCO Professor of Psyo 314: Non-Visual Perception and the Head of the Psychology Department decided it was best to cut 5 percent off of the students' final grade in order to have a class average meeting a departmental standard range of 70% to 76%.

The same actions were taken in his other class PSYO 316: Psychology of Touch 2 cutting 10% from the final grade of students. This professor is known on campus as having easy courses; however, no real or effective action was taken in order to get the class averages within range. Instead, they decided it was best to punish the students.

This action by the department and the professor are not acceptable. This action has large implications for the students. Many students' chances of going to graduate school or obtaining scholarships were negatively affected. Instead of taking the proper measures to resolve the issue, the institution decided to punish the students and create fraudulent grades. The lack of responsibility from the professor to meet departmental grade standards should not rest on the shoulder of the students.

The head of the department claims the students were verbally warned; however, no student recalls being told they would lose percent if the majority of the class happened to do well in the course. No warning was given before or after the midterm or before the final exam. The students were notified after their final grades were posted.

UBCO is setting a standard that can affect more than this class. Please help these and future students from being punished for a professor's mistake. Also let UBC know that their standards should be held, not forged.

Please sign this petition to show this institution that this action is not okay! Help these students achieve the grades they rightfully deserve.
